Access Regulations and Urban Road Charging Schemes

Nowadays, Urban Road Charging Schemes are widely used to reduce traffic jams and traffic congestion in a city. At the same time they can also improve air quality and reduce emissions. A great number of countries are adopting a tolling scheme to regulate access to the whole or parts of their cities.

Laser scanner detectors (LSR2001, RSR4001) produced by COMARK can classify vehicles into more than 20 classes, including buses and coaches. Thanks to their high detection resolution, they provide the highest level of accuracy and for this reason they particularly suitable for this application.

Systems are equipped with video cameras and laser scanner sensors. Cameras are placed at every entrance and exit of a Charge Zone to capture registration plates (ANPR), whereas sensors are used to classify vehicles (trucks, buses, cars, motorbikes, etc.).
